Voice Keyboard for International Students

In one day you may move between an English lecture, an email to a professor and a Chinese chat with family. This guide covers those three situations. It contains no usage numbers or effectiveness claims.

Class notes: dictate your own understanding

After class or in a break, say the key points in your own words. That is often easier to organize than typing while listening. Add course terms and your professors' names to personal vocabulary. Whether you may record a lecture is set by the course and the school. Here MurMur turns what you say into text. It is not a lecture recorder.

Emails to professors: say it all, then clean up

Say the request, the background and the timing first, then use cleanup mode to reduce repetition and shape paragraphs. Check the professor's name, course code, dates and deadlines one by one, and read the tone yourself before sending. Cleanup needs internet access.

Chinese chats with family: Fast Chinese

For everyday Chinese sentences, Fast Chinese recognizes on the device. You need to prepare the local model first. On the free plan on iPhone, local recognition also counts toward the weekly character allowance. Supported local modes on macOS are unlimited. If a sentence includes an English course name, switch to smart mode, which supports mixing.

Pick a mode by situation

Use Fast Chinese for Chinese only, Fast English for English only, and smart mode for mixed sentences or text you want cleaned up as an email. Cloud recognition, cleanup and translation need internet access. On the free plan on iPhone, local and cloud dictation share one weekly character allowance; check the app for the amount. Supported local modes on macOS are unlimited.

Before you rely on it

For assignments, exams and papers, check the course policy on AI tools first. Do not dictate sensitive items such as account details, transcripts or ID numbers in a cloud mode. Password fields and some restricted fields do not allow third-party keyboards.
