Android Voice Keyboard for Chinese and English: Setup Guide
MurMur is an Android voice keyboard for Chinese and English. It recognizes these two languages only. Smart mode recognizes in the cloud and supports both languages in the same sentence. Fast Chinese and Fast English recognize on the phone, one language each. This guide covers setup and your first dictation.
View official downloadsChoose a channel in the official download center
Follow the Google Play link in the MurMur download center. The official Android package is com.talkmurmur.android. Check the store for the current release, device compatibility and regional availability. Use the website's APK option only when the download center actually shows it as available; the two channels can have different release availability.
Enable MurMur and select its keyboard
Installing the app does not automatically select it as your current keyboard. Complete the in-app setup, then choose MurMur while a text field is focused. Keyboard setting names and locations vary between Android devices.
- Open MurMur and complete the setup or account steps shown by your version.
- Follow the in-app keyboard setup link to your phone's keyboard settings and enable MurMur.
- Create a private test note and focus an ordinary text field.
- Choose MurMur from the system keyboard switcher and check that the MurMur keyboard is displayed.
Grant microphone access when requested
Voice input needs microphone permission. When you start recording, respond to Android's request for the access MurMur needs. If you previously denied access, review the app's permissions in Settings → Apps → MurMur → Permissions; labels may differ on your phone. A system-wide microphone switch can also affect recording. Microphone access does not establish where your audio is processed.
Try a first dictation in your own note
Tap MurMur's voice button, speak a short sentence and use the current keyboard's finish-recording action. Wait for the result and check that it appears in the intended field. Review names, numbers, dates and specialist terms before sending it elsewhere. There is no need to send a test message, and you should review the meaning after cleanup too.
Check a missing keyboard or result
Confirm that MurMur is enabled and selected for the current field, that microphone permission is granted, and that the selected mode has any network access it needs. Try a short phrase in an ordinary note to distinguish a restricted field from a recording issue. Some protected fields can limit input methods. Keep text you still need and any app error message rather than repeatedly uninstalling the app.
Check local and cloud behavior for your Android mode
Use the modes actually shown by your current Android release. Local recognition also depends on the device and model setup. Cloud recognition, smart cleanup and translation need internet access and send the audio or text required for the request. Enabling a keyboard or microphone does not mean every feature works offline. Read the permissions and privacy pages for processing details.
