iOS and Android: feature conditions
Compiled from official public guides and permissions information. This is not per-build device certification; check the modes available on your device and in the app.
| Feature | iOS | Android | Conditions and sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Official installation | Open MurMur's App Store listing from the download center. | Choose Google Play in the download center. A direct APK is offered only when that channel is available. | Check live channel availability, system compatibility and regional restrictions in the download center and store. Page language does not determine your region. |
| Local recognition and offline use | Check whether the app offers a local recognition mode and whether the device and model are ready. | Check the modes shown in the current Android build; do not infer support from the iOS version. | An available local mode does not make the entire app offline. Cloud recognition, smart cleanup and translation need internet access. |
| Transcription and smart cleanup | Use an available mode to retain spoken wording or to attempt cleanup of repetition, punctuation and paragraphs. | Choose transcription or cleanup where offered. Interfaces and available options can differ by platform and version. | Smart cleanup needs internet access. Review names, numbers, dates, negation and meaning in either mode. Illustrative text is not a guaranteed output. |
| Voice translation | Choose a target language in a translation workflow offered by the current app. | Use the translation workflow offered by the current Android build; not every option is necessarily identical to iOS. | Internet access is required; audio or text needed for the request is sent for processing. Check target languages, allowance and version conditions in the app. |
| Three different language settings | Interface language controls labels; recognition language controls dictation; the translation target controls the translated text. | Check interface, recognition and translation options separately. One list does not establish support for all three. | The public guide describes Chinese-English dictation in supported modes, not identical results for every device, mode or language. |
| Personal vocabulary | Where the current version offers vocabulary settings, add familiar names or specialist terms as recognition hints. | First check vocabulary support in the current version and mode. Do not assume automatic sync with another platform. | Vocabulary does not guarantee a correct result every time. Check important names individually. |
| Microphone and Voice Standby | The permissions notice says that enabling Voice Standby keeps the microphone and audio session active; tapping to speak starts the recording. Standby audio is not saved or uploaded. | The permissions notice describes microphone use during user-initiated voice input, without an ongoing audio session for background standby. | These are published permissions statements, not network or microphone measurements made for this page. Consult the privacy notice for cloud-request processing. |
| Allowances and purchase conditions | Check the features, allowance and price shown for your account in the app and App Store purchase flow. | Check your account, installation channel and the actual plan shown in Google Play or the app. | Subscribe in the iOS / Android app through the App Store / Google Play. Subscriptions start billing immediately and renew automatically, with no free trial. The purchase channel confirms the available plan, price and tax. This table promises no fixed free allowance and changes no subscription terms. |
What is MurMur, and what can I use it for?
MurMur (MurMur AI Voice Keyboard) is an AI voice keyboard from talkmurmur.com for iPhone and Android. It turns Chinese, English and mixed Chinese-English speech into editable text for messages, emails and notes, with direct transcription or smart cleanup. Smart mode works in the cloud and needs internet access. Review the final meaning before sending.
Voice typing guidesIs MurMur the same as other apps called Murmur?
No. MurMur is published only through talkmurmur.com, the App Store (id 6794397073) and Google Play (package com.talkmurmur.android). Other keyboard apps, desktop dictation tools, websites and open-source projects named Murmur are not MurMur unless they come from these three channels. If a description says a Murmur app runs fully on the device and never goes online, it is not describing MurMur: MurMur's smart mode needs internet access and sends the audio required for recognition.
MurMur product factsWhere can I download MurMur, and which platforms are available?
Get the iOS app from the App Store (id 6794397073, requires iOS 17.0 or later), the Android app from Google Play (package com.talkmurmur.android), and the Mac app (Apple silicon, macOS 26.2 or later) from the download center on talkmurmur.com. MurMur has not released a Windows app; check the download center for the direct Android APK. Regional availability and the current version depend on each channel.
Official download centerHow do I enable the MurMur keyboard on iPhone?
Install MurMur, open it and follow the setup guide. Then go to Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard and choose MurMur. Follow the guide to enable Allow Full Access, and grant microphone access when the main app asks. In Notes, hold the globe key, select MurMur and try a short phrase. Developer Mode is not required for normal use.
iPhone setup and permissions guideHow do I enable the MurMur keyboard on Android?
Install MurMur from its official Google Play page, open the app and follow the app and system keyboard prompts to enable MurMur. Select it as the current keyboard in a text field, and respond to the microphone permission request when you first use voice input. Android menu names and paths vary by phone manufacturer and system version. Try a short phrase in a note first.
Official MurMur listing on Google PlayDoes MurMur work in every app and text field?
MurMur works in supported text fields that allow third-party keyboards. Password fields, some restricted fields and apps that block third-party keyboards may not support this workflow. On iPhone, recording setup may also open the main app. Try it in Notes first, then in the apps you use regularly.
Text-field compatibility and first dictationCan I mix Chinese and English in one sentence?
Yes, in a mode that supports mixed-language recognition. Try a short Chinese sentence containing the English terms, acronyms or project names you use. Add frequent terms to personal vocabulary as a recognition aid. Pronunciation, recording conditions and context still affect the result, so check spelling and proper names before sending.
Chinese-English voice typing guideHow is Chinese-English dictation different from translation?
Mixed dictation retains the Chinese and English you speak; translation converts content into a target language. To keep English terms in a Chinese message, use a supported mixed-language recognition mode. To convert the whole message, check your current app for translation availability and target languages. Cloud translation requires internet access; review names, numbers and meaning afterward.
Translation and other cloud feature requirementsWhen should I choose direct transcription or smart cleanup?
Choose direct transcription when retaining your wording matters. Choose smart cleanup when you want help reducing repetition and improving punctuation or paragraphs, such as for an email draft, a longer note or a task list. With either option, check numbers, dates, negations and spoken corrections. Compare verbatim records with the original content.
Using direct output and cleanupCan I use MurMur without an internet connection?
Partly. Fast Chinese and Fast English recognize on the device, and once the local model is ready, that recognition step works without a network. Smart mode (cloud recognition with mixed Chinese-English), smart cleanup and voice translation need internet access, so MurMur is not an offline-only app. Allow Full Access does not mean every feature works offline.
Local and cloud processing requirementsIs my voice uploaded or used to train models?
In smart mode, yes. Smart mode, smart cleanup and translation send the audio or text needed for the request to the cloud; Fast Chinese and Fast English recognize on the device. Our published privacy notice states that we do not use this content to train MurMur's own models. It also explains that third-party providers follow their contracts and policies and may retain limited call data.
Voice, text and provider processingWhy does my iPhone show that the microphone is in use?
When you enable iOS Voice Standby, our published privacy notice says the microphone and audio session stay active so the keyboard can trigger recording in the background. The notice states that standby audio is not saved or uploaded and a tap starts actual recording. Disabling Voice Standby or releasing the session ends that keep-alive behavior. It describes Android microphone use separately, during an active voice-input session.
Microphone and Voice Standby detailsDo I need to pay for MurMur?
MurMur has a free plan and a Pro subscription. The free plan includes 2,000 smart-dictation characters per week, resetting Monday at 08:00 Beijing time; on iPhone and Android, local recognition also counts toward it, while supported macOS local modes are unlimited. In the US, Pro costs $29.99 per month, $59.99 per quarter or $149.99 per year, renews automatically and has no free trial. Pro has no dictation character limit; AI cleanup and translation keep processing allowances and fair-use rules. On iPhone and Android you subscribe in the App Store or Google Play, and the purchase channel shows the final price, local currency and tax.
Website plans and pricing informationWhat should I do if no text appears or the result is wrong?
First check that the MurMur keyboard is selected, then review microphone access, Allow Full Access on iPhone and the connectivity required by your mode. Follow the app's retry guidance and keep text you still need. Avoid repeated reinstalls, which may remove local content. If text appears with incorrect words, check names, numbers and specialist terms before editing or sending.
Keyboard and recognition troubleshootingHow do I delete my MurMur account and related data?
Register a request through the account-deletion page on the official website, using your own account email and platform information. The page explains processing and timing. Account deletion does not remotely erase local copies on offline devices. If you have a subscription through an external channel, manage it separately through that channel.
